In their infancy, a saguaro cactus is incredibly vulnerable. Because they have not developed their needles, they are prone to desert animals and extreme wether. Many survive because they are able to take root under the care of a mesquite tree. Protecting them from the elements and hungry critters, the trees serve a critical purpose. Because a saguaro will eventually outlive its protector, scenes like this one are quite common. Camera: Canon AE1 Film: Portra 400
